Recently, Mark was invited to the WAFL Umpire’s presentation as a Guest Presenter. This event takes place each year and is used to educate, inspire and motivate the umpires before the start of their season.
He has received some very special messages from those who attended and was very proud to be given the opportunity to share some of his experiences in coaching, playing and life!
“I was very humbled to be invited by the WAFL and am really impressed with their high level of professionalism. In all honesty I was not sure how I would be received but was made to feel so welcome and really enjoyed the 2hrs I spent sharing my experiences with them. I spoke about coaching, playing, engagement of players, respect towards officials, my dreams and hopes for the future and was delighted with the many questions they asked after the presentation”
If you would like to book Mark or any of our PFT Staff to present at your work, club, school, etc. please get in touch.
Hi Mark,
I have received back from our umpires who attended the camp the survey’s I asked them to fill in, one of the questions related to you..
I thought I would share some of the responses with you and you should take some real confidence out this when it comes you maybe speaking at different sporting codes moving forward.
We refer quite a bit “is that a make your bed moment’!!!
Once again thank you for kicking our camp and season off in the manner we had hoped for.

WAFL Talent and Umpire Manager
What did you think of Mark Lee our guest speaker, did you walk away a better person and umpire for having listened to him?
I believe this was one of if not the best part of the whole weekend. Mark spoke very well and very insightful on how to deal with various aspects of being both an elite athlete and coach. If I could summarise what I learnt from Mark’s speech it would be that for the upcoming 2018 season I am to “control the controllable” and be known as the individual and what I stand for in this umpiring team not just as ‘the umpire’.
He was very professional and was very straight forward in his approach.
Nice guy and inspiring.
Mark Lee was an exceptional guest speaker to have for my development as a first year umpire.
His insights into what makes a great leader and a person was phenomenal. I learnt that in order to succeed the first step is to enjoy what you do, and from there to look after your inner self- know who you are and don’t be defined by the umpire but be defined by more than this.
loved every bit of it and listened to everything he said.
What have you taken away from the 1st month of preseason and the camp that you can take into your own personal Umpiring for season 2018?
Control the controllables which means working hard for that fitness. Being polite and well-mannered with the occasional banter when the time allows.
What did you think of Mark Lee our guest speaker, did you walk away a better person and umpire for having listened to him?
I think that Mark Lee was very inspirational and gave the group a number of life lessons that we can bring into both our personal lives and umpiring.
He was really good. I think he spoke from the heart and passionately about self-development and the importance of being yourself/ controlling the controllable’s (something that as umpires can be challenging. But it is something that we need to be emulating).
What did you think of Mark Lee our guest speaker, did you walk away a better person and umpire for having listened to him?
Yes. I was wondering at first “how does a man who admits who doesn’t know a great deal about AFL, be able to relate to us as umpires?.”
I was pleasantly surprised and got heaps out of it. I learnt a lot – and it was good to see from the other side- how top officials such as Mark very much appreciate top quality officiators , who are not only that, but personable as well.
What did you think of Mark Lee our guest speaker, did you walk away a better person and umpire for having listened to him?
He was really good in that he was similar enough to us that we could engage and relate to him, but different enough that he had a contrasting views and experiences to things that may have challenged what we think, or at least offered us a different perspective on things that the group all think similarly on.
The main message that I took from Mark was to only worry about controlling what you can control, by starting with the small things and working your way up ( making your bed in the morning)
He was one of the best guest speakers I have listened to, he really inspired me and made me realise the work and effort that is put into junior football.
Great to have Mark Lee speak from a different sport’s perspective. A lot of what he said resonating with my values and understandings.
He was outstanding. For someone from a different code, I initially thought that I wouldn’t find him very interesting. However, I was completely wrong and took away a lot from his speech and his openness with the group. He was very blunt and honest and I found that very valuable.
What did you think of Mark Lee our guest speaker, did you walk away a better person and umpire for having listened to him?
He was excellent – one of the best guest speakers we’ve had address the group.
Mark was sensational. In the best 5 we have had.
Mark was excellent. Very engaging and he opened up to us and was honest – he didn’t just speak “fluffy” talk. He reminded me of why I was at camp – to listen, learn, and be engaged.
